Website Promotion
"Promotion is essential to make your website
popular."
- Your web site must be properly listed with the major
Internet search engines and directories. Although there are
literally hundreds of these, there are really only 3 or 4
that are truly important. It is worth noting that your web
site may take up to 6 months to be listed with some search
engines and Internet directories but it can also appear
within a day or two on others.
- Your website must be kept fresh - updated regularly and
old redundant information removed. Otherwise your visitors
may think that you’ve lost interest in them. News pages are
just one way of keeping people re-visiting, provided they
are kept up-to-date.
- All your organisation's stationery should include your
web site address. Put it on everything you can think of –
fax addresses and e-mails, envelopes, letterheads, business
cards etc. Leave out the http:// part though.
- You should consider establishing e-mail lists for
sending notices and newsletters to your customers or
members. There are a number of approaches (and pitfalls) to
this - please
contact us for advice.
- Appropriate vehicles should have your website address
prominently displayed on them. This is one reason why it is
important to have an easily remembered, intuitive web site
address and it is an effective way to promote your website.
- All business cards, newspaper/magazine advertisements,
catalogues and brochures should include your website
address, as this will invite website visits from everyone
who normally sees these. You particularly need visits from
these people to reinforce the messages you are promoting
using these other media.
- The right key words and descriptive text must be
included in special portions of your site. This is something
we do very carefully because of its critical nature. We
recommend following this up with tests and fine-tuning to
ensure the highest possible search engine ratings. This can
be a time consuming task is but is well worth the effort and
cost in the increased number of web site visitors.
- Include links from your site to the web sites of
suppliers, sponsors and any organizations that you belong
to, providing they agree to reciprocal links. The number of
links going to your website can have a big positive effect
on the way your site is ranked on most of the most important
search engines - the more relevant links to your website
from others, the better.
